Sunday Carnival of Posts
Sunday Carnival of Posts around the Inter-Web.
First up: Mark Kilmer @ RedState.Org has the The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - Review
This week saw Admiral Thad Allen (MTP, FNS, FTN) expressing concern that New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is bringing people back into New Orleans before the place is safe. Lindsey Graham (FNS) indicated that his “Gang of 14″ would make sure that John Roberts’s nomination is not filibustered, and Bill Clinton found bipartisan consensus on global warming though John McCain and Hillary (MTP).
Putin’s not going to throw out the Russian constitution and run for another term (FNS), Bob Schieffer compared Hurricane Katrina to “the O.J. Trial” (FTN), and Arlen Specter discussed “Super Duper Precedent” with Schieffer on FTN.
Wolf Blitzer: “ARE YOU READY?”
And Clinton (TW) painted a fairy tale of the 1990’s and declared that it is more important to win in Afghanistan that it is in Iraq.
Steph couldn’t get Senator Vitter and Congressman Pence to verbally torment one another.

One strange thing about the political party in control of the government, is that they seldom seem content to accept their good conditions. When Democrats held absolute control of the U.S. Government during the FDR Administration, many leading Democrats took issue with various elements of Roosevelt’s policies, sometimes for reasons which amounted to little more than personal pique.
Some Republicans are starting to do the same thing now, in Dubya’s second term. Some may be speaking out of personal ambition, or in hopes of gaining influence with the various cliques, while others may be speaking out of genuine concern for the ideal of government restraint.
Next: Glenn Reynolds @ GlennReynolds.com has The unbearable lameness of Aaron Brown
Brown apparently thinks that it’s “lame” for authorities to tell people to be prepared for disasters. I guess as soon as the hurricane winds slack off enough for their tiny translucent wings to function, the FEMA Fairies are supposed to fly through the broken windows and sprinkle pixie dust that turns into bottled water and MREs on contact with the survivors.
Next: Mark Steyn @ Chicago Sun-Times has Flawless Roberts holding Dems scoreless
Ever since prolonged attendance at “the world’s greatest deliberative body” during the Clinton impeachment trial, my general line on the U.S. Senate has been to commend the example of New Zealand: They had a Senate, and they abolished it.
Next: Captain Ed @ Captain’s Quarters has German Exit Polling Shows Race Too Close To Call
A number of bloggers have followed the lead of the news media in declaring Gerhard Schroeder the loser in German elections today, but based on the exit polling, it’s hard to make that case just yet. The latest AP numbers show a margin that falls inside the margin of error, a result that a couple of weeks ago seemed unlikely:

The New York Times cemented its pole position on the far left side of the political spectrum with an editorial this morning urging the defeat of Judge John Roberts’ nomination as Chief Justice. The Times described Roberts as an “enigma” because he has refused to pledge to rule in a particular way on cases which he has not yet heard. In reality, of course, that’s not an “enigma,” that’s a “judge.”
Next: Erick @ RedState.org has Who is ANSWER
As Cindy Sheehan heads to Washington to march with ANSWER, we should consider who or what ANSWER is. It is one thing to call ANSWER a communist organization. It is another thing entirely to explain that.
Next: Roger L. Simon @ RogerLSimon.com has Monopoly of the Cyber Enablers
The Washington Post has a brave and important editorial today - Obeying Orders - about Yahoo’s recent cooperation with Chinese authorities. As readers will recall, the cyber giant provided an email address to those authorities that resulted in a ten-year sentence for journalist Shi Tao. (Subsequently, Yahoo’s chief Jerry Yang gave a particularly odd explanation for his company’s behavior.) The WaPo editorial concludes in this manner:
Next: Jeff Jarvis @ Buzz Machine has Schadenfreude as media bias
The Observer reports that in a conversation with Rupert Murdoch, Tony Blair “denounced the BBC’s coverage of Hurricane Katrina as ‘full of hatred of America’ and ‘gloating’ at the country’s plight.” It says that at his confab in New York, Bill Clinton “also attacked the tone of the BBC coverage at a seminar on the media. He said it had been ’stacked up’ to criticise the federal government’s slow response.”
and finally,
Jay Tea @ Wizbang has Hopping on the “Pork For The Big Easy” bandwagon
Everyone else seems to be offering up their home state’s pet federal projects for sacrifice in order to free up money for the reconstruction after Hurricane Katrina (and earning Instalanches in the process), so I figured I’d go do a little digging and see what kind of pork can be trimmed off of Cow Hampshire (if I may mix meat metaphors).
