House Resolution 571
Well probably by the time I finish this post the Republicans will have defeated their
on resolution to withdraw the troops from Iraq immediately as expected.
Thanks to the Instapundit linking
to Larry Kudlow’s post on
this very topic. You should read it.
Any preannounced timetable for troop withdrawal from Iraq aids and abets the enemy
at the risk and expense of our troops. Jack Murtha is a decorated Vietnam vet and
a good man, a patriot. But his six-month withdrawal idea, even including US forces
in nearby bases, is not a good idea.
There was one thing that I will have to respectfully disagree with Mr. Kudlow and
Mr. Reynolds on and that is this:
That said, however, I do not like the Duncan Hunter resolution “…that the deployment
of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately.”It is not serious. It demeans the House. It totally politicizes the debate. It is
a ploy and a rather weak one at that.
I think it was serious. I believe the Republicans had no other choice but to present
this resolution. Even though Rep. Jack Murtha (Democrat - Pennsylvania) was not calling
for an immediate withdrawal, thanks to our ever wonderful media, that is the way it
was reported. Including Al Jazeera. So in order to correct the damage that this whole
mess created, this had to be done to show the world and the terrorists that we will
not withdraw immediately and will not withdraw until the job is done.
…and as expected, House Resolution 571 failed to pass by a vote of 3 to 403
with 6 voting present and 22 not voting.
So, there you have it.
