Torture Does Hurt Us
Almost every time someone ends up in the enemies hands, they more than likely will end up found on the side of some road with their head separated from their body. Therefore, torture does hurt us.
Torture from our enemies, the left and democrats can hardly bring themselves to speak or write about. If it is alleged torture from American men and women, well they can start speaking and writing endlessly. As an example, there is this article from the LAT of Libi, an alleged high-ranking Al Qaeda official who was caught in Pakistan in 2001.
We don’t know exactly where Libi was sent, or exactly who interrogated him when he got there. According to ABC News, CIA sources said Libi was subjected to progressively harsher interrogation techniques, but still refused to give his interrogators the information they wanted. Finally, he was “waterboarded” (a technique designed to make a detainee think he’s being suffocated or drowned) then forced to remain standing overnight in a cold cell, where he was repeatedly soaked with icy water. No one knows, but they are taking the word of ABC News and its unnamed CIA officials. If you listen to Rush Limbaugh, you know what he has to say about a mainstream media reporter relying on an unnamed CIA Official. Smells funny to me from the start.
Now I in no way support torture, but I also feel you cannot define it. You can define interrogation techniques that are considered effective, but to define torture, I do not believe you can seriously define it. I would consider it the same thing that happens when you ban weapons. The criminals are the only ones left holding the guns. Innocent people left defenseless.I feel that most of the time when people speak of defining torture they believe that somehow our enemy will honor this and apply the same definitions to our people. I do not believe this for one minute. They will simply laugh at us as silly Americans and then it is ‘off with their head’.Our enemy does not play by the same rules. We should not hamstring ourselves to the point of ineffectiveness and the possible loss of another innocent life.
