The Simpsons Movie: Review
It was great! If a had a ratings system I would give it “Two Thumbs Way Up”, “Five Stars” or even an “A” rating.
The experience was exceptional. It was even more than I expected. After many years of watching The Simpsons on the small screen it was truly a delight to experience it on the big screen. My two boys absolutely enjoyed it. But I probably got more out of it because some of the story went way over their heads in typical Simpson’s fashion.
Unlike Beavis & Butt-Head and South Park which basically produced their small screen show and put it on the big screen, The guys of The Simpsons made this movie for the big screen and it shows. They took full advantage of the format and even added more depth to the animation and more life to the characters and the setting of Springfield.
I recommend staying until you see the Gracie Films credit roles. You get to hear the “Spider Pig” number in full production. A very nice production and will be the reason I buy the sound track soon. I have never bought a movie sound track but I think this one is a must have along with the movie when it is eventually released.
Dan Castellaneta voice of Homer Simpson was on Bob and Tom the other day and I must say there is not much difference between his voice and that of Homer. He made mention of the number of Korean animators involved in the movie and if you stay for the credits that will certainly be apparent. The credits and inset skits take up nearly the last ten minutes of film.
My only hope is that they never do a sequel as was suggested in one of the skits during the end credits. As sequels usually go, I would hate for this movie to be tainted with a sequel flop.
Mr. Black’s Reviews has a video review.
Via Glenn Reynolds, this post from Popular Science Blog on the science and mathematics of The Simpsons. I think they will be pleased with the references.
Dang, this is the second link I have made to Instapundit today. I hope he doesn’t think I am just trying to get him to link to my blog. I am very happy with the solitude my blog experiences.
UPDATED: Fixed an issue brought up in the comments. Damn it, my 3rd grade education.

If this guy ever comes to your town

You have to see him. A one man show, doing Macbeth but doing it in Simpson’s voices. He’s brilliant.

Dan Castellaneta actually doesn’t sound that much like Homer. He was one of the actors on the Tracey Ullman show (the balding one) which of course, spawned the Simpsons, if you want to see what he normally sounds like.

Jeremy,
You are probably right. It was just after hearing him in character as Homer then to have Homer pretend to go and get Dan by the waiting car and have him come back. It was just probably the circumstances that made them sound so similar. Or maybe he just did not fully disengage the character.

Dude, it’s “The Simpsons,” NOT “The Simpson’s.” Plural, not possessive.

I heard the Spider-Pig music on XM radio’s movie soundrack channel. I agree, it would be worth sticking around through the credits for.

Unforgivably, he movie failed to include the necessary “eeehxcellent”, and BEEEHLCH. Though hounds were, indeed, released.
Though a lot of fun, the movie ultimately remained “free to wallow in its own crapulence.”

Saw the movie yesterday. Thought it was “ok”, but far from great. It felt like they tried to crap way too much into it. The pace was strange. A few priceless lines (as usual). Lots of laughs. But I was expecting more. Mind you, the audience seemed to enjoy it more than I did. The spider-pig scene was a riot.
