Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

The U.S. government has determined that the 10 American Baptist missionaries detained by the Haitian government on kidnapping charges and held in squalid conditions without medical care for days had no “malicious intent” in trying to take 33 Haitian children out of the country following the devastating Jan. 12 earthquake.

Wal-Mart continues to support the local communities it thrives in and the California Wildfires only add to that.

California Wild Fires

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Same story as last year and the many years before that. Trees burning. Houses burning. Everything burning.

In a desert that is suppose to be a desert due to lack of rain fall, it is only natural that things that can burn will burn due to the lack of rain fall.

The frustrating part about it all is that the news outlets find it hard to squeeze all the other news in between the reports of the wild fires.

Until next year.

Katrina - The Aftermath - 2 Years Later

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Well I have not been back to New Orleans for a number of years, but I still have in-laws that live in the Jefferson Parish burbs. Now even though they are doing rather well. The actual city of New Orleans, not so much.

Wizbang has a post of the progress or the lack their of made on this 2 year anniversary. Sad to say it has not gone well.

Wizbang also has this very lengthy post to remind us all of the actually truth of what really happened after the Category 3 Katrina passed over New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.

Some Good Advice for New Orleans

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Great graphic and great advice in the  comments. Even though some still think it was the hurricane that flooded New Orleans the advice is good none the less.

It was actually corrupt politics that has been around for centuries, that led to money being diverted to the pockets of those politicians and their cronies, that led to not enough money to properly build the levees that ultimately failed. Not because they were topped, but because they were compromised from under neath.

The Day The Bridge Fell In Minneapolis

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

7 Killed in Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

An interstate bridge jammed with rush-hour traffic suddenly broke into huge sections and collapsed into the Mississippi River Wednesday, pitching dozens of cars 60 feet into the water and killing at least seven people.

The eight-lane Interstate 35W bridge, a major Minneapolis artery, was in the midst of being repaired and two lanes in each direction were closed when the bridge buckled. About 20 families gathered at an information center, looking for information on loved ones they couldn’t locate.

“There were two lanes of traffic, bumper to bumper, at the point of the collapse. Those cars did go into the river,” said Minneapolis Police Lt. Amelia Huffman. “At this point there is nothing to suggest that this was anything other than a structural collapse.”

Captains Quarters has plenty of local perspective, here. Plus much more.
