Rendition: The Movie

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Just up at my local Blockbuster Video and plenty of copies of Rendition were available for rent.

Instapundit has a worthy post on the bleeding out of Stop Loss. In the post is a link to a counter anti-war/anti-America Hollywood War movie, Outside the Wire. I am looking forward to adding this film to my collection in the near future.

Rented No Country for Old Men BTW.

Jericho Cancelled

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Evidently Jericho was still airing on CBS, but has now been cancelled.

My initial reaction was; Jericho, seems like I’ve heard of that. Then; oh yeah, it seems like I watched part of an episode some time ago.

I guess I was completely turned off because I never watched another episode.

Reading some of the reaction at Instapundit, it seems as though the show went all Hollywood anti-war, anti-America and proceeded down hill from there.

So for me, if this is yet another failure of Hollywood trying to press it’s agenda, then I am happy with the outcome. It gives me hope.

I am sure they will continue to try, for they are liberals after all. An alternate definition of insanity.

American Idol Returns

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Finally my American Idol has returned and I can finally stop holding my breath.

As Drudge has posted today that the ratings for the premier are the lowest in four year, it does not take away from the great production and entertainment value. Besides I am sure many many left wing nut bags were watching the democrats debate in Nevada. Not bloody likely.

Just like the economy can’t be on the upside all the time. Ratings for hit TV series can’t either. That does not mean they still aren’t a hit. I am sure the other network would love to be making the ad revenue this show will surely make.

Enchanted: The Review

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

I liked it. I used the 4 passes I got from the Bee Movie and took the boys and the neighbor boy to see Enchanted. It was probably not the best choice for the four of us. The boys thought to much kissing stuff took place and not enough of the stuff boys, including myself, like to see in a movie. But a really good movie that lives up to the Disney standard.

The other flicks that were available for viewing were Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium and Fred Claus did not rate as high as Enchanted at Rotten Tomatoes here and here respectively. So in that we don’t get to the theater that often, I think we made a good choice. Holidays mostly are the only time we can get out as a family.

Until Christmas.

Captain Ed also has a nice review of the flick. Written and expressed in a way I only wish I could.

Bee Movie: The Review

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

I would wait for it to come out on DVD. Even though the theater we saw it in was having sound problems (got 4 passes for another movie) I found it obvious for myself, not a laugh was really had through out the entire flick. I expected more from Jerry.

Of course it will do fine in theater, DVD and the ton of other periphery sales. So I cry not a tear for the millionaires that will do fine on this movie.

Poter Wagoner Dies at 80

Monday, October 29th, 2007

I am sad to see him go. I have fond memories of him from my youth. Grand Ol’ Opry and all you know.

He has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. He will certainly be missed.

Tom Spaulding has a great write up.

Amityville Horror: The Review

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Even though Amityville Horror scored low at Rotten Tomatoes, I like it.

Hot Fuzz: The Review

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Hot Fuzz, I liked it. Much like I liked Shawn of the Dead. If you liked that, you will certainly appreciate this.

If you are into all of the unnecessary violence, blood, guts, mayhem, explosions, severed heads and other body parts getting blown or cut off, you will certainly like Hot Fuzz.

Superbad: The Review

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Superbad, saw this on Tuesday evening with just a few people in the audience. I was not planning on seeing this movie when I did, but when I got home that night and found the Kirby Company guy in my liven room showing my wife their latest carpet cleaner I had to get out of the house.

I liked it!

The movie was really good for the vulgar humor and the typical story line, in the same vein as Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Just more rude and crude.

Absolutely not a family friendly movie. The kids certainly should not be in the house or at least within ear shot of this one.

Clerks II: The Review

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Clerks II, saw it on DVD over the weekend and loved it. The guys at work have been telling me how funny it is for weeks. I’ve just been waiting for it to come in from Blockbuster.

If you do not get Kevin Smith you may not enjoy it as fans do, but if you like crude humor you just might like this one. It is certainly not for all audiences and children should not even be in the same house when this movie is being played.

Anchorwoman: The Review

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Anchorwoman

It was good. I liked it. I have no issues with gazing upon the beauty of a very nice looking woman.

She certainly has the looks that are easy on the eyes and a voice that is easy on the ears.

The production values were good, akin to those of The Office but different. It gave me more of a feeling that this was real. With all of the faces, license plates, logos and other things, it really seemed as though this whole show was more of a reality show.

I will have to look into it more to find out what the real deal is with the show.

Anyway, I look forward to tuning in next week. If it truly turns out to be a good show I just hope they don’t do a Driven to it. I loved that show and was looking forward to seeing more of it.

UPDATE: Fox Cancels Anchorwoman Well this is sad news, but at least they cut it quick and did not lead me on like they did with Driven. Maybe it will be picked up by Comedy Central. Fingures Crossed.

Tom Snyder Dies at 71

Monday, July 30th, 2007
Tom Snyder, who pioneered the late-late network TV talk show with a personal yet abrasive style and his robust, trademark laugh, has died from complications associated with leukemia. He was 71.

Snyder died Sunday in San Francisco, his longtime producer and friend Mike Horowicz told The Associated Press on Monday.

“Tom was a fighter,” Horowicz said. “I know he had tried many different treatments.”

I always really enjoyed listening to and watching Tom and sad to see him go. I am sure he is in a better place, free from the agony of his illness.

The Simpsons Movie: Review

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

It was great! If a had a ratings system I would give it “Two Thumbs Way Up”, “Five Stars” or even an “A” rating.

The experience was exceptional. It was even more than I expected. After many years of watching The Simpsons on the small screen it was truly a delight to experience it on the big screen. My two boys absolutely enjoyed it. But I probably got more out of it because some of the story went way over their heads in typical Simpson’s fashion.

Unlike Beavis & Butt-Head and South Park which basically produced their small screen show and put it on the big screen, The guys of The Simpsons made this movie for the big screen and it shows. They took full advantage of the format and even added more depth to the animation and more life to the characters and the setting of Springfield.

I recommend staying until you see the Gracie Films credit roles. You get to hear the “Spider Pig” number in full production. A very nice production and will be the reason I buy the sound track soon. I have never bought a movie sound track but I think this one is a must have along with the movie when it is eventually released.

Dan Castellaneta voice of Homer Simpson was on Bob and Tom the other day and I must say there is not much difference between his voice and that of Homer. He made mention of the number of Korean animators involved in the movie and if you stay for the credits that will certainly be apparent. The credits and inset skits take up nearly the last ten minutes of film.

My only hope is that they never do a sequel as was suggested in one of the skits during the end credits. As sequels usually go, I would hate for this movie to be tainted with a sequel flop.

Mr. Black’s Reviews has a video review.

Via Glenn Reynolds, this post from Popular Science Blog on the science and mathematics of The Simpsons. I think they will be pleased with the references.

Dang, this is the second link I have made to Instapundit today. I hope he doesn’t think I am just trying to get him to link to my blog. I am very happy with the solitude my blog experiences.

UPDATED: Fixed an issue brought up in the comments. Damn it, my 3rd grade education.

Lou Rawls Dies at 72

Friday, January 6th, 2006

I am a big fan of Lou Rawls and always enjoy his music and his talent. I am very sorry to see him pass from this life and on to the next, but I am sure he has gone on to better things.

Thank You Low Rawls.

The Critic - Marathon

Friday, December 30th, 2005

To enjoy my second complete day of vacation, the oldest boy and I went to IHOP for
breakfast. He had the Chocolate Chip Pancakes and I had the Country Fried Steak with
Eggs. Ran a few more errands while the day was young.

Now we are going to sit down to watch disc 1 of The
Critic - The Complete Series (1994)
. Which was provided via my Blockbuster.com
Online
account.

I probably did not appreciate the series when it was in it’s first run, but now I
do and always enjoy watching it. Too bad it did not have the luck The
Family Guy
did with the un-canceling but, at least I will have the DVD to always
remember it.
