The Chronicles of Narnia - The Movie

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2005)

Took the oldest son (9) finally to see this movie that I have heard so much about. Strangely I had heard nothing about it before now, but that is probably because I need to get out more.

He said “it was great” and I thought it was  great as well.

The only nit I have to pick was with the CGI when they were on the rock bridge. I think they must have let the interns do the graphics in that scene. The lighting did not match what so ever. Other than that I thought the graphics and all of the talking animals were great.

From Yahoo Movies:

Follows the exploits of the four Pevensie siblings–Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter–in World War II England who enter the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of ‘hide and seek’ in the rural country home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs, and giants that has become a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis. Under the guidance of a noble and mystical ruler, the lion Aslan, the children fight to overcome the White Witch’s powerful hold over Narnia in a spectacular, climactic battle that will free Narnia from Jadis’ icy spell forever.

La Shawn Barber has a review of the movie as well. If you have not been there yet, what are you waiting for? It is much better than this one.

Letterman Released From Restraints

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

From E! Entertainment: Letterman Unrestrained

Sometimes a cigar just is a cigar. And sometimes when David Letterman says “Oprah,” he just means Oprah Winfrey.

A woman who claimed Letterman’s “Oprah” was a secret marriage proposal might wish to consider the latter after a judge in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Tuesday quashed a temporary restraining order against the late night star.

Letterman’s attorneys successfully argued that Colleen Nestler, 59, had no legal grounds to ask a court to keep the host 100 yards away from her at all times. The Late Show comic’s camp also made a case that the New Mexico court had no sway over the East Coast-based Letterman.

This was ridiculous from the beginning and the judge in the case should have never entertained it in the first place.

Punch Drunk Love - The Movie

Monday, December 19th, 2005

I loved it.

I am a big fan of Adam Sandler and the intensity that he brought to his part was unbelievable.

For Yahoo Movies:

An dark comedy centering around Barry Egan, the socially impaired owner of a small
business—distributing novelty toilet plungers—in the San Fernando Valley. Dominated
by seven sisters, and constantly negotiating his own manhood, he is unlikely to find
romance unless romance finds him. In an attempt to resolve his loneliness, while having
a vulnerable moment, Barry contacts a phone sex operator who, in turn threatens him
with blackmail. Connected to a larger business network, the operator send some thugs
on a mission from Utah to California, to follow, scare, and extort Barry. Barry becomes
desperate, until a new door opens in his life. Therefore, when one of his sisters
fixes him up with a lovely young English woman, Lena–who has rather quirky qualities
herself–his emotions go haywire, fluctuating between lust, self-doubt, and uncontrollable
rage. Nonetheless, Barry will embark upon whatever adventure it takes, just to have
a shot at true romance.

George Carlin - Personal Favorites

Saturday, December 3rd, 2005

Hey if you like George Carlin, you will certainly like this, I know I did. This is, just as the title implies, some perosnal favorites. His greatest hits as it would be in the music realm.

From Rotten Tomatoes:

The bad boy of comedy, George Carlin is known both for his bitingly funny routines which turn the mundane minutiae of life into hilarious comedy, and his penchant for curse words. PERSONAL FAVORITES is a best-of compilation of Carlin’s live performances, spanning from 1977 to 1998. Handpicked by the star himself, these clips, filmed at venues around America, include classic routines such as “Baseball and Football,” “A Place For My Stuff,” “Hitler,” and “We Like War.”

Law & Order - Katrina - Anthrax - More

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

Law & Order was jammed pack with almost everything tonight and if they had not
run out of time they could have thrown in the kitchen sink.

This is a list of the items covered in tonight’s episode:

  • Child abduction
  • Suspected other things that should not be done with children
  • Hurricane Katrina
    • $2000 FEMA debit cards
    • Prepaid cell phones
    • New Orleans mentioned several times
    • Survivors
    • Floating dead bodies
    • Evacuees
  • Anthrax
  • Guy dying on Anthrax
  • Girl surviving infection of Anthrax
  • Government conspiracy/cover-up
  • Unauthorized/whistle-blower leaks to the press
  • Nosy reporter getting in the way/Being a jerk
  • Reporter going to jail to protect sources

This I believe just about covers it.

It was a great show. By half time I kept thinking to my self, how many more times
are they going to mention Katrina and New Orleans. How many more twists can they add
to this one story? I should have kept count.

This from Yahoo TV:

“Storm”

While searching for a child molester who has abducted three young children orphaned
by Hurricane Katrina, detectives learn that the suspect also possesses a deadly strain
of anthrax.

This obviously only covered half of all the things that took place.

Bruce Willis - Yon - Deuce Four

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

In this encouraging report for the Sunday
Times of London
, it reports that Bruce Willis is in discussions about making a
real movie about Deuce Four’s adventures in Iraq. It is said to be based upon the
excellent embedded reporting of Michael
Yon
.

ANGERED by negative portrayals of the conflict in Iraq, Bruce Willis, the Hollywood
star, is to make a pro-war film in which American soldiers will be depicted as brave
fighters for freedom and democracy.

It will be based on the exploits of the heavily decorated members of Deuce Four,
the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry, which has spent the past year battling insurgents
in the northern Iraqi town of Mosul.

He is expected to base the film on the writings of the independent blogger Michael
Yon, a former special forces green beret who was embedded with Deuce Four and sent
regular dispatches about their heroics.

Yon was at the soldiers’ ball with Willis, who got to know him through his internet
war reports on
www.michaelyon.blogspot.com.
“What he is doing is something the American media and maybe the world media isn’t
doing,” the actor said, “and that’s telling the truth about what’s happening in the
war in Iraq.”

I look forward to this coming to a theater near me.

Hat Tip: Michelle Malkin

The Lady Killers - The Movie

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

I loved it. I highly recommend it.

Tom Hanks and all of the characters were great especially Irma P. Hall. The musical
score was excellent. The Gospel music was a definite treat. If you enjoyed “O
Brother, Where Art Thou?
“, this is another great Coen Brothers movie. These guys
most certainly have found that special something about filming in Mississippi.

From Yahoo Movies:

Goldthwait Higginson Dorr III is a charlatan professor who has assembled a gang
of experts for the heist of the century. The thieves are experts in explosions, tunneling
and muscle. The professor is their critical inside man. The base of operations is
the root cellar of an unsuspecting, church-going, little old lady named Mrs. Munson.
The ruse: the five need a place to practice their church music. The problem: it quickly
becomes evident that Dorr’s thieves lack the mental capacity to do the job. The bigger
problem: they have seriously underestimated their upstairs host. When Mrs. Munson
stumbles onto their plot and threatens to notify the authorities, the felonious five
decide to ‘do her in’ before she ruins their heist. After all, how hard can it be
to knock off an old lady? They’ll soon find out.

Bridget Jones’s Diary - The Movie

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

I liked it. I would recommend it.

From Yahoo Movies:

At the start of the New Year, 32-year-old “singleton” Bridget decides it’s time
to take control of her life and start keeping a diary. Now, the most provocative,
erotic and hysterical book on her bedside table is the one she’s writing. With a taste
for adventure, and an opinion on every subject–from her circle of “smug married”
friends, to men, exercise, food, sex, and everything in between–she’s turning a page
on a whole new life. Despite her efforts to get her act together, she finds herself
caught between two men–a man who’s too good to be true, and a man who’s so wrong,
he could be right. Meanwhile her new employers think she is nuts and her scatter-brained
friends are absolutely no help whatsoever.

Mr. Miyagi Dies at 73

Friday, November 25th, 2005

I was really sad to hear this news today.

From the AP:

LOS ANGELES - Actor Pat Morita, whose portrayal of the wise and dry-witted
Mr. Miyagi in “The Karate Kid” earned him an Oscar nomination, has died. He was 73.

Morita died Thursday at his home in Las Vegas of natural causes, said his wife
of 12 years, Evelyn. She said in a statement that her husband, who first rose to fame
with a role on “Happy Days,” had “dedicated his entire life to acting and comedy.”

The one thing that I will will certainly always remember him for:

In 1984, he appeared in the role that would define his career and spawn countless
affectionate imitations. As Kesuke Miyagi, the mentor to     Ralph
Macchio’s “Daniel-san,” he taught karate while trying to catch flies with chopsticks
and offering such advice as “wax on, wax off” to guide Daniel through chores to improve
his skills.

I truly enjoyed him in the movies. I am sure he will be missed.

I Hate Chris

Everybody
Hates Chris

Tonight’s
episode was the best one by far.

Here is
the synopsis for Yahoo TV:
“Everybody
Hates Greg” Episode #106.
When
Chris decides to hang out and play games at Greg’s house without parental permission,
Greg’s father comes home and Chris must hide to avoid getting caught.

Full disclosure
here, I am a big Chris Rock fan, have been since SNL

Zathura - The Movie

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

I liked it. The characters were likable and believable. The special effects were great. The story was interesting, believable and not as much like Jumanji as you would think. I went with my oldest son and he enjoyed it as well. Probably for other reasons that only, a 9 year old could.

I will recommend it highly. It would also be a good movie to add to the library.

James Doohan in Space

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

James “Scotty” Doohan of Star Trek fame will have his remains sent into space. So I guess he will finally make it into space after all.

I have to say Scotty was one my favorite officers on board the Star Ship Enterprise. Second only to Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Nyota Uhura).

From Reuters:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Evidently “Star Trek” actor James “Scotty” Doohan took the catchphrase [sic] ”beam me up” very seriously — his cremated remains will be launched into space in accord with his last wishes.

Commercial space flight operator Space Services Inc. will launch the late actor’s remains into space aboard its Explorers Flight on December 6, a company spokeswoman said on Friday.

Everybody Hates Chris

Saw it for the first time tonight. Loved it.

I have always been a big Chris Rock fan. I heard alot of good things from last weeks
episode and had the opportunity to tune tonight.

From Yahoo TV:

“Everybody Hates Sausage” Episode #102.

Fists fly and Dr. Raymond (Jude Ciccolella) must intervene in the conflict between
Chris and the school bully.

I will be tuning in again next week.
