Residents have been fighting for years for the right to put in reinforcing stones or other structures, but have been denied at every turn because of the beetles. Glenn Therres, a biologist with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), says the agency will try to help homeowners – but not at the cost of the beetles.

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007I was in Wal-Mart today picking up some last minute forgotten items. I noticed that the lights in the upright freezers lighting up. I thought it was just probably those wacky florescent lights acting up.
Turns out Wal-Mart has installed motion switches on the freezer lights to turn them off when no ones around, to come on when they are and to obviously conserve energy. Great idea and good for them.

This is on the heels of watching the two hour report on CNBC titled Age of Wal-Mart. I thought it gave a rather balanced report on the company from both sides. Those that oppose a success of Wal-Mart (communists, socialists and unions) and the views from insiders like the CEO and others.

The Kennedy’s Shame
Friday, November 9th, 2007No I am not referring to Teddy “The Swimmer” Kennedy’s checkered past. John F. Kennedy’s or Robert F. Kennedy’s womanizing. Or any of the other sordid affairs that make the Kennedy Klan a laughing stock in American History. Hey, everyones family has some skeletons in the closet. Theirs just happen to be very public.
The one that I am writing of today deals with the Kennedy’s wrong doing as it pertains to the Cape Wind Project. Teddy and Bobby Jr. along with a number of the rich elite friends have been doing everything in their power to distroy the man behind the project. These are the very men who complain and complain about the use of alternative energy just as long as it is not in their back yard. Literally!

Modern living to blame for cancer epidemic
Binge drinking, reckless sunbathing and overeating are fuelling a massive rise in cancer, experts warn.
In a shocking report, they have laid bare the deadly consequences of increasingly hedonistic modern lifestyles.
Cases of mouth cancer, which is associated with smoking and drinking, have increased by almost a quarter.
Malignant melanoma - the most dangerous form of skin cancer - is up by 43 per cent in ten years as warnings to stay out of the sun are ignored.
Kidney cancer, which is much more common in smokers and the overweight, is also on the rise, the report shows.
