Iowa: Fred Thompson Does Well

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Well it seems everyone is making projections/future tellings of the outcome of the Iowa Cauci tonight. So I thought I would make mine.

Seeing that their is only one candidate that I am concerned with, I predict that Fred Thompson will finish a good second place behind The Huckster.

If you are asking what I am basing this, well considering that none of the polls to date have Fred in second place. Pure emotion would be the answer. With a little channeling of the sensible Iowa voter mixed in.

Now I will just have to wait and see how right I am.

UPDATE: Welcome Instapundit readers. I am a big fan of the Puppy Blending Blogfather. I would not recommend wondering around reading anything else. I am a horrible purveyor of the English language. You will of course realize this if you proceed beyond this post as if this post was not proof enough.

Thanks for stopping by though. Go Fred!

UPDATE II: Well why Nigel Ray’s report in the comments of Fred finishing 2nd in his caucus is encouraging. The returns that I am watching on FOX are certainly not turning out that way. In any event at least he finished 2nd somewhere in IOWA. I will of course count that as my prediction being a good one.

If nothing else, hopefully it will be a strong 3rd over McCain. Fingers Crossed. Go Fred!

UPDATE III: OK, so maybe I did not call it exactly, but considering what Fred has had to contend with because the media is afraid of him. He calls them out. He did good.

Now own to South Carolina because New Hampshire is just to damned cold. Go Fred!

Pass it along.

I am not gong to bother to place a contribution widget, well because, besides Google and a number of other engines, I am the only one that ever comes around. Lately I have not even been visiting.

In any case Support Fred ‘08. The only true conservative in the race and one that Regan himself would endorse.

Frank J. Fleming Endorses Fred Thompson

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Frank J. made it official today and endorsed Fred Thompson ‘08.

If that is not good enough reason for you to pull the lever for Fred Thompson ‘08, then you are probably an insult to hopeless liberal hippy freaks across the land. Punch yourself, you deserve it.

Fred Thompson doing the bus tour thing in Iowa is starting to get the press he deserves.

It is gratifying to see the press finally starting to see what has been Fred Thompson all along.

Fred Ain’t Dead

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Some nice words from The American Spectator on what I have known about Fred Thompson all along.

Memo to readers: With his superb performance in Wednesday’s debate in Iowa, Fred Thompson has made a monkey out of me. By early afternoon on Tuesday, the column that appears below, one which posits that Thompson’s presidential campaign might still find a way to win, was ready in exactly the form it appears here. But I thought the column would still remain exactly on target throughout the week, so (for various reasons) I aimed for a Friday release. At the time, I thought that until Thompson began his Iowa bus tour on Monday the 17th, my contention that he “ain’t dead” yet would seem noteworthy for its boldness.

Fred Thompson Wins Iowa Debate

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Well that is what a lot of people are saying at least. This guy has a great round up of various comments.

I did not watch it. I was at work. Well not at work, it was half day Wednesday so I was out running the roads, listening to Rush Limbaugh on WIBC radio.

Considering what everyone was saying about it. It will be interesting to see what Rush has to say about it tomorrow.

Finally Fred Thompson is showing everyone, or at least they are finally seeing, what I have seen in Fred for a long time now.

Fred Thompson on Religion

Friday, December 7th, 2007

Yet another reason I will be voting for Fred Thompson come ‘08.

Asked about his religious beliefs during an appearance before about 500 Republicans in South Carolina yesterday, Fred Thompson said he attends church when he visits his mother in Tennessee but does not belong to a church or attend regularly at his home in McLean, Va., just outside Washington. The actor and former senator, who was baptized in the Church of Christ, said he gained his values from “sitting around the kitchen table” and said he did not plan to speak about his religious beliefs on the stump. “I know that I’m right with God and the people I love,” he said, according to Bloomberg News Service. It’s “just the way I am not to talk about some of these things.”

This is exactly my position.

Rush on Fred Thompson

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Today Rush Limbaugh had a great segment on Fred Thompson showing Charlie Rose was out of his league with Fred.

RUSH: Last night on Charlie Rose’s show on PBS, former Senator Fred Thompson is the guest. Charlie Rose says, “You constantly say in this campaign that you’re a conservative. What does that mean today?”

THOMPSON: It means things that are consistent with God’s design for man. It’s consistent with human nature. It’s consistent with the lessons of history and the lessons of the ages. They found form in the Constitution, I think, and what our Founding Fathers believed. They understand that man can do great and wonderful things, but man is prone to err and times do terrible things, that too much power in too few hands is a dangerous thing. That power is a corrupting thing.

ROSE: In all of that you didn’t mention abortion, gay rights, all the things that have been part of recent presidential elections.

THOMPSON: Well, you’re talking about different things there. Those are issues that are before us which derive from principles.

RUSH: Now, this is just fabulous to me, this is just great. Here Charlie Rose asks Fred Thompson, “Well, what is a conservative today anyway?” So Fred gives his definition of a conservative, and Charlie says, “Well, wait a minute. I didn’t hear anything about abortion, or gay rights, all the things that have been part of recent presidential elections.” Here’s how Fred answered that, because Charlie Rose came back and said, “Principles? What do you mean principles?”

THOMPSON: Principles are what guides you in coming to positions with regard to issues. You know, the Declaration of Independence said that basic rights come from God and not from man. The Founders talked about, you know, life and liberty and the importance of that, and that everything is based on those basic principles. And I take those principles and, you know, for example, I come to the pro-life conclusion there. And when we had issues, you know, for eight years when I was in the United States Senate about whether or not the federal government should be funding, for example, abortion-related activities and things of that nature, you know? The application of those principles in that instance told me the answer was no, properly.

RUSH: I guarantee you, Charlie Rose is clueless here. None of this… He’s listening to, you know, Mongolese as Fred Thompson is going through all this. (laughter) Sometimes you have to laugh at these poor, clichéd liberals who just live in the most closeted, cocooned world, while thinking they are the most worldly and erudite among us.

Thompson’s words conservatism, principles, the Founders, the Declaration of Independence, life, liberty and may other things are what being conservative is all about.

Fred Thompson on Government and Eating

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Another reason to add to the mounting reasons to vote Fred Thompson for President.

You just have to love this guy.

Thompson: Don’t let the government tell you what to eat

For that matter, keep the government as far out of my life as possible.

Flat Tax Fred

Friday, November 30th, 2007

I swoon at the idea of ridding ourselves of the IRS and would celebrate the day of it ever happened.

Now if I did not have more than enough reasons to vote for Fred Thompson. He has added yet another reason. A Flat Tax, abolishment of the death tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax and a cut in the corporate income tax rate to 27% from 35%. Now granted it falls short of getting rid of the IRS, but it does give a choice between the the old system and a better system. It is also a good start to eventually dumping the whole mess.

No other candidate has put forth more conservative policies than Fred Thompson and that says a lot about who the true conservative is, in this race.

Nothing Is Wrong With Fred’s Campaign

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

It is amazing to see all of the stories assuming there is something wrong with Fred Thompson’s Campaign. In my opinion, I am appreciating the way Fred is running. He is running it with a sense of realism and optimism.

I think he knows it is still early in the cycle and even though pundits and caucus voters are paying attention, the vast amount of voters that will ultimately decide are not even paying attention. It is not even 2008.

Fred Thompson and Social Security

Monday, November 12th, 2007

The one candidate that has the guts to speak the truth on Social Security and offer a real plan that will not only save it for current recipients but make it better for future ones, is Fred Thompson.

It makes me laugh when some on the other side call it a trust fund. First is the word “trust”. That being trusting the government to do anything well. The second is fund. That would imply that a fund has been set aside for future payout and it has not. The only thing the fund has in it are I.O.U.’s, with no ability to ever pay those promises.

The system was broken since it’s inception. The only ones to ever receive a real benefit are the ones who never paid a dime into it, but got plenty out of it.

Think about it, if an IRA or 401(k) were setup that you were guaranteed never to receive what you put into it. You would not be able to pass it on to your family. Would you sign up for that plan?

Well with Social Security, you are doing just that. You had no choice and you will never get back what you deserve.

One more thing. Every dime that you put into Social Security, your employer matches that. Not by choice. They are not being generous. They are following the law. In essence, whatever you are paying forcibly out of your paycheck for Social Security, DOUBLE IT. That’s right, you are paying twice as much as you think into the system.

Take a look at that amount next time and tell me it wouldn’t be better off, if it were to go into a plan that you would truly benefit from and that you controlled.

Fred Thompson has a great plan and it deserves the light of day.

This is just another reason I will be voting for Fred Thompson next November.
